Non Accidental Injury (NAI)

Protocol
  • CXR- AP
  • Ribs - Oblique - Bilateral
  • Pelvis - AP
  • Knee - AP Bilateral
  • Ankle - AP Bilateral
  • Arms - AP (centered on elbow and including humerus and forearm)
  • Hand - AP Bilateral
  • Foot - DP Bilateral
  • Skull - AP
  • Skull - Lateral
  • Lumbar Spine - Lateral
  • Thoracic Spine - Lateral

  • Centering on joints will demonstrate some fractures which may otherwise be missed due to diverging beam
  • Often NAI cases end up in a court of law, lead markers must always be used otherwise the images may be inadmissible as evidence due to legal technicalities
