Ultrasound scanning guidelines

Pyloric Stenosis Assess: Stomach contents Pyloric muscle length, muscle thickness, diameter Response of pylorus to peristaltic waves Stomach emptying Under Ultrasound control warm glucose water is slowly introduced. Sufficient water (20-40cc) is used to act as an acoustic windows to visualise the pyloric canal and observe response to peristaltic waves Documentation: Pylorus measurements are obtained: Length of pyloric canal Transverse diameter of pylorus Transverse muscle thickness Observation and clipstore of peristaltic waves passing or attempting to pass the pylorus If no abnormality detected in pylorus check SMA / HA orientation for malrotation/Kidneys for hydronephrosis Once examination is complete, excess water can be aspirated
