Kidneys

Assess:
  • Assess each kidney in two longitudinal planes at 90 degrees to one another
  • Renal length
  • Renal contour
  • Parenchymal echotexture / echogenicity
  • Collecting system
  • Adrenal region
  • Peri-nephric area
Documentation:
  • Three images in each longitudinal plane
    • Lateral / mid / medial for long plane
    • Anterior / mid / posterior for coronal plane
  • Longitudinal axis measurement
    • A length measurement in each plane
    • Record the longest good measurement
    • Plot renal lengths on chart
  • Transverse views
    • Upper pole
    • Mid - through renal hilum
    • Lower pole

Bladder

Assess:
  • Bladder contour and wall
  • Bladder pre and post void capacity
  • Adnexal regions, Pouch of Douglas
  • Distal ureters, ureteric ridge
Documentation:
  • Longitudinal view Right / Mid / Left
