This 54 year old male presented to the Emergency Department after a fall.
He was referred for chest radiography.
There is a small area of subcutaneous emphysema demonstrated above the left shoulder (arrowed).
Lateral
The lateral projection image demonstrates subcutaneous emphysema tracking posteriorly (arrowed)
The patient may have fractured ribs during the fall and the subcutaneous air may be associated with fractured ribs/pneumothorax.
