General X-ray protocols

Adult IVU / IVP

Protocols
  • Prelimary Films
    • Abdomen - AP Supine
    • Tomogram - Renal Area at three levels starting at (9cm for females, 11cm males)
  • Check with radiologist
  • Inject contrast media
  • 1 minute tomogram - Renal Area (nephrogram)
  • 5 minute plain film - Renal Area
  • Compression may be applied at this stage
  • Abdomen - Renal Area - Obliques (RPO + LPO)
  • Abdomen - AP Supine - Post Micturation

Supplementary views
  • Renal Area views with compression
  • Abdomen - AP Supine - full length release (when removing compression)
  • Abdomen - PA Prone
  • Bladder - Obliques (RPO + LPO)
  • Inspiration / Expiration oblique Renal Area
  • Delayed films to determine site of ureteric obstruction
