The mid-coronal plane divides the body into anterior and posterior parts.
If the patient has their MCP parallel to the IR they are either lying prone (on their front) or supine (lying on their back)
If the patient has their MCP perpendicular to the IR they are lying on their side.
it follows the coronal suture in the skull.
